March 7, 2008 BOSTON, Mass. -- The 15th-ranked Providence College men's hockey team was defeated, 2-0, at No. 16 Boston University Friday night in a Hockey East game played at Agganis Arena in Boston, Mass. With the win, the Terriers improved to 17-15-4, 15-9-3 in league play and also secured second place. The Friars fell to 14-15-5 overall and 11-11-5 in Hockey East action. PC will finish fifth in the standings and they'll find out their opponent after tomorrow night's games. The Terriers jumped ahead, 1-0, at 6:28 of the first period when Jason Lawrence played the puck into the slot for Joe Pereira who fired a back hander from in close that glance off the right post and into the net. BU increased its lead to 2-0 at 1:33 of the second period as Nick Bonino skated into the slot before firing a wrist shot past PC goalie Tyler Sims. BU goalie Karson Gillespie did the rest as he stopped all 33 shots he faced to earn the shutout. The Friars finished with a 33-17 shot advantage, including 15-1 in the third period.
The Friars will play in the Hockey East Quarterfinals beginning on Friday, March 14 with an opponent and site yet to be determined.
