BUFFALO, N.Y. - The Providence College men's lacrosse team defeated Canisius, 11-5, on Saturday, April 26 in Buffalo, N.Y. during Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action. The Friars and Griffs each finish the league slate with identical 7-1 records and share the MAAC Regular-Season title. Providence will advance to the upcoming conference tournament as the No. 1 seed by virtue of today's head-to-head win vs. Canisius. The Friar tallied the first two goals of the game and never looked back, as junior Bobby Labadini (Westford, Mass.) recorded a season-high three goals in the victory. Graduate students Bennett Murphy (Princeton, N.J.) and Mark Dillon (Gaithersburg, Md.) each scored two goals. Murphy chipped in two assists for a game-high four points on the day. Providence College junior goalkeeper Robert Bryan (Apex, N.C.) posted eight saves to secure the victory. Canisius netminder, Chris Courteau, played all 60 minutes in the loss and registered seven saves. The Friars outshot the Griffs, 29-22. Canisius held the advantage in groundballs (26-16), and also posted 13 victories at the face-off "X" in 19 opportunities. Providence will be making its eighth-consecutive appearance at the MAAC Tournament when it faces No. 4 seed VMI in the semifinals on Friday, May 2 in Loundonville, N.Y. The Keydets are making their first ever appearance at the MAAC Tournament in men's lacrosse. Game time is set for Noon.
