Sept. 26, 1997 Men's Soccer Falls to SyracusePROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Providence College men's soccer team was defeated by BIG EAST foe Syracuse, 5-1, Friday, September 26 at Providence, R.I. Syracuse sophomore midfielder Gabriel Gervais scored three goals and added one assist for seven points. Gervais scored the game's first two goals at the 6:06 mark and the 21:24 mark to give Syracuse a 2-0 lead. Freshman forward Tim Songer netted Syracuse's third goal at 58:21 and Gervais completed the hat trick at 58:52. Freshman midfielder Matt O'Toole scored the Friars' only goal at the 63:08 mark. Syracuse freshman forward Matt Torok scored the game's final goal at 65:06. Syracuse senior goalkeeper Dan Hobson recorded one save in the win. PC's Dan Pires and Chris Tate registered for three saves in the loss. Syracuse improved its overall record to 4-4 and 2-2 in the BIG EAST, while Providence dropped to 2-6 overall and 1-4 in BIG EAST action. Providence College returns to action on Sunday, September 28 against St. John's at PC's Glay Field.
