Tina Cormier begins her sixth season at Providence College as the Friars' top assistant coach. Cormier is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the field hockey program, including recruitment of qualified student-athletes and on field coaching. Cormier came to Providence with coaching experience at the collegiate, high school and youth levels. A native of Ste-Marie de Kent, New Brunswick in Canada, Cormier served as a part-time assistant field hockey coach at the University of New Brunswick. Cormier also served as the assistant field hockey and assistant ice hockey coach at Sussex Regional High School. She also coached a 12-14 year old girls' field hockey team in Germany, and has been involved with numerous Provincial Field Hockey teams in New Brunswick. Cormier, a 2001 graduate of the University of New Brunswick, has earned numerous accolades for her prowess on the field hockey field. In 2001, Cormier was honored as the University of New Brunswick's Female Athlete of the Year. In 2000, she earned the Liz Hoffman Player of the Year Award (MVP) as part of the Canadian Inter-University Athletic Union (C.I.A.U.). Cormier was selected as the Dr. Garnett Copeland Medal Winner as the top all-around athlete at UNB in 1999. She was a C.I.A.U. First-Team All-Canadian selection (1996-00) and A.U.A.A. Field Hockey Most Valuable Player honoree (1996-00). In her first year at UNB in 1996, Cormier was recognized as a C.I.A.U. and A.U.A.A. Field Hockey Rookie of the Year, and UNB Rookie of the Year. She also was a member of the Canadian National Squad. Cormier is the Co-Director of Circle to Circle Field Hockey Camps, LLC and also assists with the Coaches' Clinic, which Madl and Cormier developed to run in conjunction with their camp. Cormier also has been involved with Futures over the last three years, and served as a head coach since 2004. She also served as head coach of a U-16 Team at the 2005 and 2006 National Futures Championship at Virginia Beach, Va. Cormier currently serves as the Regional Coaching Director for Futures (Region 3). Cormier also played indoor field hockey for Team Dita as part of the North American Premier League in 2005. Cormier received a bachelor's degree in education and kinesiology from the University of New Brunswick, and has worked as a physical education teacher in grade levels ranging from kindergarten to eighth grade. She also has been working toward a Master's degree in counseling while at Providence College.
