Providence's Balg Scores Hat-Trick to Lift Friars Over Brown, 4-1

Providence, RI -- The sixth ranked Lady Friars defeated Brown University this afternoon at Hendricken Field, 4-1. Junior forward Mirandi Balg (Sound Beach, NY) netted the first three goals to give her her first career hat-trick.

Balg's first goal was assisted by senior Paula Wagoner (Toledo, OH) with 24:05 remaining in the first half. She tallied her second goal when she tipped in a shot from sophomore forward Erica Hebert (Enfield, CT) with 15:38 on the clock. Balg's third consecutive goal was from Wagoner three minutes later. Junior Katie Lachapelle rounded out the scoring when she rebounded her own shot midway through the second half.

Brown's lone goal was scored by Kate Sullivan off a corner hit by Kristen Getler in the first half.

Senior goalie Jamie Soteriades (Columbus, OH) recorded four saves and her second win of the season.

Providence improves to 5-0 overall and Brown falls to 2-1.
