PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Five Providence College field hockey players earned NFHCA All-Region honors. The announcement was made by the NFHCA office on Tuesday, November 14. Junior midfield/defender Jessica Lane (South Windsor, Conn.) and sophomore forward Nellie Poulin (Oakland, Maine) were named to the NFHCA Division I All-Northeast Region First Team. Sophomore goalkeeper Rachel Chamberlain (Branford, Conn.), senior forward Abby Maguire (Southbury, Conn.) and senior defender Michalagh Stoddard (Norwood, Mass.) were named to the Second Team. Lane and Poulin earn All-Region honors for the first time in their careers, while Chamberlain, Maguire and Stoddard are repeat selections.

Lane, an All-BIG EAST Second-Team selection in 2007, finished the year fifth on the team in scoring with a career-high 20 points on one goal and 18 assists. Lane led the Friars in scoring during BIG EAST regular-season play with 11 points on one goal and nine assists. Her lone goal on the season was the game-winner in a 2-1 victory over BIG EAST Conference rival Rutgers (2-1). She currently ranks third in the nation among NCAA Division I players in assists per game (0.82). Her 18 assists are one short of tying the single-season record at Providence set by Paula Wagoner in 1997 (19). At the conclusion of the 2007 BIG EAST Conference Championship, Lane was named to the 11-member All-Tournament Team.

Poulin, an All-BIG EAST First-Team selection in 2007, finished the season second on the team in scoring with 22 points on nine goals and four assists. Two of her nine goals were game winners in 2007. Poulin has eclipsed the 20-point plateau in each of her two seasons with the Friars. In 2006, she recorded 25 points on 10 goals and five assists. In just two seasons, she has worked her way into the top-25 all-time in career scoring at Providence. She is currently tied for 23rd with 47 points on 19 goals and nine assists. She also is tied for 20th all-time at PC in career goals (19).

Chamberlain, the two-time BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Year and First-Team All-BIG EAST selection, makes her second appearance on the All-Northeast Region squad as a member of the Second Team. A year ago, Chamberlain earned First-Team All-Northeast Region honors and was named a Third Team NFHCA Division I All-American. In 2007, Chamberlain posted a 14-8 overall record, which included five shut-out victories. In 1,460 minutes of action, she made 100 saves and allowed just 26 goals for a 1.25 goals against average and a 0.794 save percentage. She currently ranks ninth in the nation among NCAA Division I goalkeepers in save percentage, and 12th nationally in goals against average. Chamberlain was named to the BIG EAST All-Tournament Team in 2007.

Maguire, a three-time All-BIG EAST selection, including a spot on the First-Team in 2007, makes her third-straight appearance on the NFHCA Divison I All-Northeast Region Second-Team. She completed the year with 18 points on eight goals and two assists. She scored PC's two goals in a 2-0 victory over No. 11 Louisville in the BIG EAST Championship semifinal round and was named to the BIG EAST All-Tournament Team at the conclusion of the championship game. Maguire finishes her career ranked 10th all-time in scoring at Providence with 74 points on 32 goals and 10 assists. She also ranks ninth all-time in career goals (32).

Stoddard, one of the top defenders of all-time at Providence, makes her second appearance on the All-Region Team. In 2006, Stoddard was a First-Team selection. In 2007, she earned Second-Team honors. The Friars' center back also is a two-time All-BIG EAST selection and was named to the BIG EAST All-Tournament Team in 2007. In addition to being a top-notch defender, she posted career highs on the offensive side of the field with a team-best 23 points on eight goals and seven assists. Prior to the 2007 season, Stoddard owned four points on one goal and two assists.

Providence College finished the 2007 season with a 14-8 overall record and advanced to the BIG EAST Championship game for the second-straight season. The Friars finished the season ranked 20th in the final NFHCA Divison I National Coaches' Poll, marking the second-consecutive season Providence has earned a spot national rankings to finish the year.
