Feb. 1, 1998 Friars Edge Princeton, 6-4PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Providence College defeated Princeton University, 6-4, in women's ECAC hockey action at PC's Schneider Arena on Sunday, Feb. 1. Princeton got on the scoreboard first as Danya Marshman ripped a shot from the slot which deflected off a PC defenseman and eluded Friar goaltender Heather Wilcox at 1:27 of the first period. PC evened the game with a goal by Valerie Bono at the 5:14 mark of the first period. The score remained tied after two periods of play as each team netted one goal in the second stanza. Katie Lachapelle gave the Friars a 2-1 lead with a score at the 1:25 mark. Princeton struck quickly as Annmarie Holmes tallied the equalizer at 2:56. Princeton's Holmes netted the first goal of the third period at 1:14 to give the Tigers a 3-2 lead. However, the Friar offense came to life with four unanswered goals by Corinne Rosen (two goals), Bono, and Catherine Hanson. Princeton's Ali Coughlin added the final goal of the game on a power-play with 1:40 remaining in the game Wilcox stopped 14 shots in the win. Princeton netminder Tammy Orlow made 25 saves in the loss. Providence College is now 7-16-0 overall and 7-7-0 in the ECAC, while Princeton is 9-10-1 overall and 6-8-0 in league play. The Friars return to action on Friday, February 6 against Northeastern at Schneider Arena at 5:30 p.m.
