Game One Box Score | Game Two Box Score

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Sophomore Danielle Bertolette and junior Jennifer Maccio allowed just one run in two games to lead the Providence College softball team to a double header sweep over Quinnipiac Tuesday afternoon at Raymond Field. The Friars posted a 1-0 win in the first game and a 4-1 triumph in the second contest.

In the first game, Bertolette pitched all seven innings, allowed no runs on seven hits and struck eight batters. She posted her first shutout of the season and improved to 4-4. The Friars scored the lone run in the bottom of the seventh inning as freshman Justine Stratton led off with a double to centerfield. Junior Gina Rossi followed up with a double down the rightfield line to score Stratton and give PC the win.

In the second game, Maccio allowed one run in the second inning and held the Bobcats scoreless the rest of the way. She pitched seven innings, allowed just four hits and struck out two batters to earn her sixth win of the season.

The Bobcats struck first in the second inning when Cary Simms hit a single to score Christine Bourdeau who had doubled. However, the Friars took a 2-1 lead in the bottom half of the second inning when they loaded the bases and sophomore Jenna Garcia as well as junior Mary Rose Sheehy eached drew walks to force in two runs. Garcia gave the Friars a 3-1 lead when she scored on a sacrifice fly by Samantha Pittman. PC capped off the scoring in the sixth inning as sophomore Katelyn Revens walked, stole second base and eventually came around to score on a ground out by Sheehy.

 

 

The Friars are back in action on Saturday, March 29 when they host the University of Connecticut in the BIG EAST opener at Raymond Field. The first game of the double header will begin at noon.
