PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College softball team defeated Boston College, 2-1, Thursday afternoon in a non-conference game at Raymond Field in Providence, R.I. With the win, the Friars improved to 25-22-2, while the Eagles fell to 29-29.

The Friars took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when sophomore Christy Becker (Atlanta, Ga.) singled through the right side to score classmate Jenna Garcia (Morro Bay, Calif.) who drew a one-out walk. The lead increased to 2-0 in the third inning when Garcia belted a line drive home run over the left field fence marking her fifth home run of the season.

The Eagles cut the lead in half in the fourth inning when Dani Weir blasted a home run to left field marking her seventh home run of the season.

PC junior Jennifer Maccio (Huntington Station, N.Y.) earned the win as she pitched a complete game and struck out four batters to improve to 10-7. Junior Gina Rossi (Bakersfield, Calif.) finished with two hits, while Garcia scored two runs and made a diving catch in the fifth inning.

The Friars are back in action on Saturday, May 3 when they host USF in a BIG EAST Conference double header beginning at noon at Raymond Field.
