Women's Track at BIG EAST Championship

VILLANOVA, Pa. -- Providence College senior Marie McMahon (Ennistymon, Ireland) captured the 5,000 and 3,000 meter titles at the BIG EAST Outdoor Track Championship on May 2-3 and led the Friars to a 10th-place finish with 38 points. With the two wins, McMahon earned the BIG EAST Championship Outstanding Track Performer honor.
It marks the second time McMahon earned the Outstanding Track Performer honor as she garnered the accolade in February after winning the 3,000 and 5,000 indoor titles at the BIG EAST Indoor Championship. McMahon, a 10-time All-American who won the 1996 NCAA Indoor 5,000 meter title, won the 5,000 at the BIG EAST on Sunday, May 3 in a time of 16:10.62.
She captured the 3,000 on Saturday, May 2 in a time of 9:15.80. For McMahon, it marked her first BIG EAST Outdoor 3,000 title and her second Outdoor 5,000 meter title.
Also in the 5,000 meters, PC junior Sarah Dupre (Kingston, Ontario) placed second (16:40.40) and earned All-BIG EAST honors. Sophomore Dana Ostrander (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) finished ninth (17:18.59) in the 5,000. Following McMahon in the 3,000 was PC freshman Rachel Hixson of Media, Pa. (fourth, 9:33.98).
